Mehri Khalil is an Egyptian artist whose practice explores geometry, line, and form as a way of navigating memory, transformation, and human connection. Moving between abstraction and figuration, her work is rooted in processes of construction and deconstruction — simplifying, fragmenting, and reassembling forms in search of balance and essence. Drawing inspiration from the Egyptian street, architecture, and craft traditions, she investigates rhythm, structure, and the relationship between positive and negative space.
Alongside her artistic practice, Khalil’s research and archival work inform her sensitivity to material, continuity, and visual language. She explores form not only as representation, but as a way of thinking through instability, memory, and presence. She holds a PhD from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (2025), a master’s degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2012), and a bachelor’s degree from the The American University in Cairo (2009).
